Veer Bal Diwas

The Meaning of the Brave Children’s Day in Sikhism: Veer Bal Diwas 2023. Learn about the significance of Veer Bal Diwas historically and why this day is commemorated. The sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru, are celebrated on this day.

Veer Bal Diwas is observed annually on December 26 to honour their bravery and selflessness. Ajit Singh, Jujhar Singh, Zorawar Singh, and Fateh Singh are the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji who are highly respected members of the Khalsa community. Sahebzada Jorawar Singh and Fateh Singh became martyrs on this day.

Lets Look into History

Guru Gobind Singh Ji established the Khalsa, a military order whose goal is to defend people against injustice, in 1699. The 17th century saw fruitless attempts by the Mughal Empire to drive out the Sikhs from Anandpur Sahib due to their perceived danger from the Khalsa.

The brave young martyrs, Sahibzada Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Baba Fateh Singh Ji, were born in the peaceful town of Anandpur Sahib and were the youngest sons of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji.

Their moving story begins early on December 7, 1705, during the momentous Battle of Chamkaur. Baba Zorawar Singh Ji, along with Baba Fateh Singh Ji and their grandmother, were apprehended by Jani Khan and Mani Khan Ranghar, who were Morinda officials. And then the next day they were taken to Sirhind and imprisoned in the Fort’s Cold Tower (Thanda Burj).

On December 9, 1705, the young brothers faced the strong Nawab Wazir Khan, who threatened to kill them. This was the pivotal moment. Unfazed, they maintained silence, leading to the pronouncement of a death sentence.

A heartbreaking order to imprison them alive inside a wall was given on December 11, 1705. But as the masonry rose around their fragile shapes, it suddenly collapsed at chest height. The Sahibzadas spent the night again in the Cold Tower as a result of this unplanned incident. After being confined alive inside a wall, Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji suffered a solemn martyrdom on December 12, 1705.

Four Sikh shrines sanctify the location of this terrible episode, which is now known as Fatehgarh Sahib, close to the mediaeval town of Sirhind. A religious festival is held here every year from December 25 to December 28 to honour the courage and unwavering commitment of these young martyrs.

Let’s Look how it was celebrated Last Year

March was held on the Duty Path the previous year. The BJP’s National Secretary and former president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, said that this was the first time in the history of the nation that a parade honouring the young Sahibzadas was organised exclusively on January 26.

The march comprised 3,000 youngsters going from Major Dhyan Chand Stadium to India Gate, showing the history of the Sahibzadas on Duty Path; soldiers matching steps to the sounds of the army band; and a historical tableau with a mural depicting the Sahibzadas on the wall. This momentous occasion was noted in foreign embassies and high commission offices, in addition to government buildings, train stations, petrol stations, and classrooms.

Veer Bal Diwas was observed, and people of all faiths were informed about the background of martyrdom. Translations into many languages are still used to teach history.

What’s new this year?

There are plans to do something completely different this time. According to Sirsa, this time around, a number of new aspects will be included. The primary gathering will happen at one of Delhi’s ancient sites. The goal is to break the records from the last event. Everyone will be invited, including the prime minister, chief ministers, governors, lieutenant governors, and ambassadors.

According to Sirsa, the preparation for the Veer Bal Diwas gathering has already started, and inquiries have already started. He emphasised the tremendous national support that had been shown for the preceding event, which had drawn big crowds to each congregation or programme. As a result, early preparation will be used this time to provide comprehensive details about the entire event, enabling individuals from other states to attend the Delhi event as well.
